Insurance fraud affects everyone both indirectly and directly…including Hollywood stars like Tom Hanks. From 1998 to 2011, the actor had an agent Jerry Goldman who billed him a lot more for his insurance than he actually owed…by at least 600%. The agent did this with other stars including Andy Summers, guitarist for the band The Police. But the agent may not have realized how serious insurance fraud is in California. He was sentenced to more than two years in jail and had to pay $840,000 to those he took advantage of. He also rightfully lost his insurance license.
